Wake Up To Makeup

My neighbour Nicole

Morning Sistah’s.  Today here at Daily Dimmick we’ve been pondering what Wake Up To Makeup would be about this week and after such a c-c-ccold weekend and the rush of the holidays.  After much deliberation it was unanimously decided that bright fresh lips were the clear winner for today’s post.

Everyone seems to love wearing black at this time of year and I for one, am much more a fan of colour.  Shorter days, longer nights and chilly winds can be depressing enough so why bring that onto your face?  I think not.  When I wear a colourful plaid shirt/paisley tie combo I’m usually met with a smile and a comment on the cheer it brings.  Of course not all of us are going to wear this sometimes intense kind of cheer so why not bring just a little of it to your lips.  After all we use our mouths all day long so why not make it a cheery experience for yourself.

I did the above makeup on my neighbour Nicol.  Nicol works at Room and Board and occasionally appears on air for Sabrina Soto’s High Low Project on HGTV.  What is so great about these lips is that I used Nicol’s own lip colour’s.  Why did I use her colour instead of what I had in my kit?  What I’ve learnt in my years of making up women is that lipstick and gloss is very intimate.  I will only interject if the colour is distracting from a woman’s presence.  Not all tones and colours work for all women.  For example, smaller lips generally don’t work with darker colours and your skin’s undertone also let’s you know what colours are best.

What I love about the colour Nicol has, is that it’s alive and fresh.  It is one of my all time favourite combinations of orange and pink.  So what did Nicol pull out from her bag of makeup goodies?  A fantastic pink lipliner from Prestige by the name of Diva applies over the entire lip, followed up by a gorgeous orange lip gloss by Revlon in Coral Reef.  Warm and cool all at the same time.  Flush and colour.  What more could you possibly want?

So remember, if you are in the northern hemisphere stay fresh and alive this winter with brighter colours and if you are down under keep summer cheery and bright.  Is there really any other way to live your life?  Not in my book.  Have a fabulous, fun day today ladies.  This is Stephen Dimmick from Daily Dimmick signing out for the day.

I LOVE this blend of bright color and shine! Lately I’ve been worried that my lip colors are too 1990s (remember the era of Clinique Black Honey, the omnipresent blackberry stains…I worry I loved them too much). Thanks for the inspiration!

I completely agree with you on the colour front…colour, colour and more colour! I have also noticed how people react to the colour you are wearing or not wearing in the case of black.

What if your lips are not really your best feature? Is is best to down play them with just a simple clear gloss? Maybe stay neutral?
